Всего в сутках 24 часа. 12-часовой формат времени предполагает разделение суток на два равных интервала — пополуночи (ппн) и пополудни (ппд).
В английском языке эти интервалы имею обозначение:
- a.m. (ante meridiem) – до полудня.
- p.m. (post meridiem) – после полудня.

Но, несмотря на некоторые неопределенности в обозначениях, все же система достаточно простая.
Часовой пояс
Гораздо сложнее высчитывать время с учетом географического и административного часовых поясов.
Географический часовой пояс – условная линия на земной поверхности. Нулевым часовым поясом принято считать гринвичский меридиан. От него и идет отсчет: +0:00, +1:00, … +23:00. Московское время — +3:00.
Административный часовой пояс – территория, на которой время может отличаться от времени по ГЧП из-за принятых законов.

Буквенные обозначения часовых поясов
Для разных стран, регионов и территорий используются буквенные обозначения часовых поясов. Например:
- ET — Северноамериканское Восточное Время — UTC/GMT -5:00;
- EST — Северноамериканское Восточное Стандартное Время — UTC-5;
- CEST — Центральноевропейское Летнее Время — UTC+2;
- CET — Центральноевропейское Стандартное Время — UTC+1;
- PT — Северноамериканское Тихоокеанское Время — UTC/GMT -8:00;
- PST — Северноамериканское Тихоокеанское Стандартное Время — UTC-8.

Так как же узнать, сколько времени по Москве, зная все эти AM и PM, GMT и UTC?
Можно пойти сложным путем и посмотреть информацию о часовом поясе интересуемой страны или территории, узнать о летнем и зимнем переводах времени, а потом используя простейшую математику подсчитать. Но зачем? Ведь в век цифровых технологий уже все подсчитано за вас!
